Ballen on Samsø combines an important harbor with sandy beaches, maritime history, and well-described opportunities for cycling and water sports. On Samsø, National Cycle Route N4 runs from the Ballen ferry harbor to the harbor in Sælvig; this section is 11 kilometers long. The 20th stage of the Kulturringen cycle route also leads from Ballen to Sælvig. Historic character

Ballen harbor was established in 1764 as a shipping harbor for Brundby under the name Brundby Balle. Ballen Kalkovn is protected as one of the oldest, best-preserved, and most authentic examples of an old limeworks.
