Elsegårde between the beach and cycle routes

Elsegårde Beach is located in the immediate vicinity of Elsegårde and combines several visible coastal features. There is sandy, nutrient-poor soil left behind after the sea level fell. Seashells are easy to find on this beach. Flint and limestone pieces, which were brought here from Norddjursland, are also found there. At Elsegårde Beach, sandy soil, seashells, and flint and limestone stand alongside one another as coastal materials. At the shore, the view is therefore directed not only towards the water but also towards the ground beneath your feet. Sand, shells and rock can be perceived as different coastal materials alongside one another. The origin of the flint and limestone pieces also establishes a connection between Elsegårde Beach and Norddjursland. This combination makes the beach a specific starting point for observing nature along the coast.

Beach with visible geological history

The sandy soil at Elsegårde Beach is nutrient-poor, while seashells are easy to find there. Flint and limestone add further types of pieces.

Village pond and proximity to the coast

Elsegårde Camping is located on the edge of a cosy village with a village pond. The beach and Kattegat are each 500 metres from the campsite. This gives the village edge and the coast a clear spatial relationship for orientation on site. The village pond belongs to the village side, while the beach and Kattegat mark the maritime connection. This separation helps with planning a day that does not combine the village surroundings and the shore into a single landscape impression.

The Ahl-ruten from a cycling perspective

The Ahl-ruten runs through Elsegårde. The route is approximately 18 km long and follows small roads and paved cycle paths. The Ahl-ruten therefore brings together small roads and paved cycle paths within a route of approximately 18 km. For planning a cycling tour, the approximate distance provides a clear framework without specifying an exact travel time. The route thus includes both small roads and paved cycle paths. For planning the day, the approximately 18 km and the two types of route are therefore equally relevant on the Ahl-ruten. The different surfaces can be taken into account when planning the length of the day and breaks.

Elsegårde Skov and plant diversity

Elsegårde Skov is located along a former Stone Age coastline. This historical connection distinguishes the forest from the present-day coast at Elsegårde Beach. In one part of Elsegårde Skov, 120 herbaceous plant species were recorded. The botanical survey is limited to one part of the forest. The coastline is therefore a historical landscape reference, while the plant species belong to a limited part of the forest. The 120 herbaceous plant species expand the forest’s connection with nature without equating the former coastline with the shape of the present-day shore.

Ridehallen (Elsegårdevej 11, 8400 Ebeltoft) is connected to the Gåsehage stage.
