Rønde between forest, coast and culture
Rønde between forest, coast and Kalø
Rønde can be discovered through its forest, coast, history and culture. The state-owned Hestehave Skov forest lies immediately south of the town. Kalø is located on the south coast of Djursland, southeast of Rønde, and borders the town directly. The forest south of the town and Kalø on the south coast southeast of Rønde represent different landscapes: Hestehave Skov the forest, and Kalø the coastal area.
The connection to the Kalø Castle Ruins is particularly striking: the approximately half-kilometre-long causeway to the Kalø Castle Ruins was built at the same time as Kalø Castle. The approximate length of the causeway provides a concrete indication for personal planning if you intend to cover this distance on foot. This is relevant when choosing your destination if you would like to combine nature experiences with impressions of cultural history.
Natural areas and coastal landscapes
Hestehave Skov is part of a larger Natura 2000 area. Følle Beach is also located in the vicinity of Rønde. Another distinct natural area is Følle Bund: the restored meadow area is characterised by a rich variety of birdlife and is part of Mols Bjerge National Park. This allows you to distinguish between forest, beach and protected or restored landscapes when planning your trip, rather than viewing Rønde solely through the lens of a single excursion destination.
Bregnet Church offers views of Egens Vig. Guided tours of Bregnet Church are available for groups, with a guide providing information about the church and its history. The view of Egens Vig provides a visual connection to the coast, while the group tour focuses on history and interpretation.
Culture and transport in Rønde
Syddjurs Egnsteater is housed in Kulturhotellet in Rønde and produces 2–3 original productions for children and young people each season. In addition, various events take place in Rønde throughout the year, which guests can also attend. Those travelling with children or wishing to take cultural events into account alongside nature and history will find another aspect to consider when planning their trip. The year-round programme of events extends the possible cultural offering beyond the theatre’s individual original productions.
For your choice of transport and location, Rønde has good bus connections to, among other places, Grenaa, Aarhus, Randers and Ebeltoft. When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Rønde, you can therefore first decide which priority matters to you: proximity to the town, access to the coast and nature, or an interest in Kalø, history and culture. If you are planning excursions to several of these places, you can include the bus connections in your choice of location. For comparison when planning your trip, you can also find the other places in the travel area at Ugelbølle, Kolind, Vrinners, Hornslet, Stødov, Femmøller, Dråby and Ryomgård.
