Skovgårde between cycling routes, beaches and culture

A number of burial mounds and individual free-standing oak trees add further definition to this landscape. Hyllested Skovgårde is situated relatively high in the landscape. Around Skovgårde, therefore, the focus is not only on the sea, but also on a distinctly varied, open natural setting. The character of the landscape arises from the interplay of elevation, openness and vegetation. The open view across the Kattegat stands alongside gorse, blackberries, heather, burial mounds and individual oak trees in the surrounding hills.

Cycling on the Gravlevbanen

For active days of travel, the Gravlevbanen is a specific point of reference: it is a 25-kilometre cycling route in Mols Bjerge National Park and passes Skovgårde. Part of the route follows the former railway line between Ebeltoft and Gravlev. The route length gives active travellers a concrete scale for planning their day, while its course along the former railway line adds a historical dimension.

Beaches in the surrounding area

Ahl Beach is a beach in the surrounding area of Skovgårde, as is Øer Beach. Both beaches expand the possible change of scenery to include time by the water. When planning your trip, you can therefore distinguish between inland nature, views across the Kattegat and time spent at a nearby beach.

Historical traces in and around Skovgårde

Ebeltoft Gårdbryggeri is a well-preserved brewery dating from 1860 in Hyllested Skovgårde. The history of the settlement area goes back even further: Hyllested-Skovgårde was established in the mid-1760s, when six farms were moved from Hyllested into the forest. Another prominent point of reference is Skovgårde Voldsted, a well-preserved medieval castle site whose origins are thought to date back to the beginning of the 16th century. Anyone interested in local and regional history can consider the preserved brewery, the development of the settlement area and the castle site as different historical topics alongside one another.
