Discover Thorsager: Round Church, Forests and Kulturringen
For culture enthusiasts, Thorsager begins with the Thorsager Round Church. It was built around the year 1200 and is one of the oldest brick buildings in Jutland. It is one of Denmark’s seven medieval round churches and the only one in Jutland.
The Thorsager Round Church
The round shape defines the structure. Inside is a white church interior with vaulted ceilings and four substantial red-brick columns. The red columns stand out clearly against the white interior and form strong vertical elements beneath the vaults. For culture enthusiasts, the Thorsager Round Church can be considered as a separate focus alongside the forests and recreational activities in the area.
Forests and Følle Beach
Thorsager is surrounded by extensive forests that offer good opportunities for recreational activities. Følle Beach is located in the vicinity of Thorsager. For days outdoors, the forest surroundings can be linked directly with Thorsager, while Følle Beach can be planned separately as a beach destination in the area.
Riding camps during the Danish summer holidays
Every year, Kongsvad Rideklub holds two riding camps during the first two weeks of the Danish school summer holidays. The Kongsvad Rideklub riding camps include lessons in dressage and show jumping. The start of the holidays determines the timing. For those interested in equestrian sports, the first two weeks of the holidays can therefore be used as specific planning dates together with dressage and show jumping. When planning a trip, these two weeks can be combined with the two riding disciplines.
Cycling on Kulturringen
The Kulturringen cycling route is 540 kilometres long in total and is divided into 22 tours. It runs along paved minor roads and cycle paths. For cycle tourists, the division into tours provides a concrete way to plan the long overall route in sections. Those who do not want to consider all 540 kilometres as a single route can use the 22 tours as a guide. The length suggests planning in sections, while the paved minor roads and cycle paths specify the route surfaces. When choosing a tour, both the division into 22 tours and the two types of route can therefore be taken into account. For day planning, the route remains divided into individual tours without losing sight of its total length of 540 kilometres. On a longer cycling trip, the individual tours can be considered as time-based units; the total length remains the framework for the entire route.
Thinghøj is 2.25 metres high and has a diameter of 17 metres. Thinghøj is visible in a northerly direction from a public road. Anyone viewing Thinghøj from the road should therefore look north.
