Töre between the Skerries, Harbour and History

Töre combines a skerry landscape, harbour and maritime history with specific points of interest for different types of travel days. The skerry area comprises islands, beaches and harbours and is part of the world's second-largest brackish-water area. In winter, it offers opportunities for skiing excursions. Those who choose the town as a base for a stay on the northern Baltic Sea will find both coastal landscapes and historical themes and regional offerings.

Skerries, Beach and Harbour

Bärsjärdan Beach is located about 1 km outside the centre of Töre. The small bathing area has a jetty and complements the surrounding coastal landscape with a clearly defined place by the water. The harbour of Töre is also the destination of the MidsummerSail regatta at the northernmost point of the Baltic Sea. The regatta covers a distance of about 900 nautical miles (1,670 km), starts at the southernmost point of the Baltic Sea and ends in Töre every year around Midsummer.

Submarines and Defence History

The Submarine Museum in the harbour of Töre commemorates suspected submarine incursions into Swedish territorial waters during the Cold War. During the season, the museum is open from 11:00 to 16:00. In Törehamn, the Summer Cottage Cannon stands next to the Submarine Museum. It is a coastal gun that was camouflaged as an ordinary summer house during the Cold War. The maritime theme also includes HMS Spiggen II: it was built in 1990 for the first Swedish submarine flotilla as a target submarine for anti-submarine warfare exercises.

Historic Sites in the Surrounding Area

Töre Church stands on a hill at the mouth of the Töreälven. Nearby is Törefors, which has been designated a cultural environment of national interest and is associated with the mining and ironworks history of Norrbotten. The historic environment comprises a workers' residence, an office, a manor house, a mill, a storehouse, a turbine house, the remains of a blast furnace, foundations, a dam channel, a quay, spoil heaps and a slag heap. The list makes clear that Törefors is characterised not by a single building, but by several components of a former industrial environment.

Regional Cuisine and Distillery

Töre also offers various documented points of interest for days focused on culinary experiences. Norrbottens Destilleri has a farm shop and serves food and drinks. Tastings with a cocktail event are also offered there. In summer, guests can book guided tours and tastings of the distillery's own spirits at Norrbottens Destilleri. Another option is a bakery in Töre that can be rented for baking Klådda and similar items.
