Discover Tyrnävä
Accommodation in Tyrnävä
Tyrnävä can be explored on two levels: the town centre tells the story of industrial architecture and exhibitions, while attractions throughout the municipality add cultural history, outdoor activities and nature. This distinction can help you choose accommodation that suits the focus of your trip.
Industrial heritage and exhibitions in the town centre
Meijerikatu is the centrepiece of a carefully restored industrial complex from the early 20th century in the centre of Tyrnävä. The municipality’s exhibition hall is on the second floor of Myllykirjasto Library at Meijerikatu 3. It hosts 12 to 15 exhibitions each year. The street and exhibition hall offer different points of interest for anyone interested in the town’s built history and cultural life.
Tyrnävä’s Esinemuseo offers another historical perspective: it is housed in a granary dating from the 1860s and is next to Tyrnävä Church. At the museum, visitors can learn more about the life of Armas Pasanen, also known as Tyrnävän Peilipoika. The history of architecture and Pasanen’s life story each offer their own perspective. Local produce is also part of the town’s character: Tyrnävä is known for its pure potatoes.
Temmes: village culture and a walking tour
The historic village of Temmes is located in the municipality of Tyrnävä, on the Temmesjoki River. It is known for its theatre and lively cultural life, and was named Village of the Year in Pohjois-Pohjanmaa in 2024. A walking tour of just under an hour starts at the Temmes cooperative dairy, goes to the nearby Hongansilta heritage bridge and returns to the dairy.
Also in Temmes, the asphalted Temppuileva Temmes pump track is located in a recreation area. It is open year-round and is suitable for BMX bikes, scooters, skateboards and inline skates. The site also has a large shelter with a fire pit and firewood provided. There is also an accessible outdoor toilet with handwashing facilities. Alongside village culture and the walking tour, the facility adds another type of activity to your trip plans.
Markkuu Nature Trail and other attractions in the municipality
The 10-kilometre Markkuu Nature Trail runs through the area around the Ängeslevänjoki River and its tributaries. It starts at Luonto- ja hyvinvointitalo Peukaloinen; the Metsänhaltia skills course is at the beginning of the trail. A suspension bridge crosses the river, while sections along steep riverbanks are challenging. You can assess the trail by its length, riverside scenery and varied terrain.
Rest and overnight facilities are also located along the trail: 700 metres along the route, there is a hut with a fire pit and a small playground. A second rest stop is about five kilometres along the route, roughly halfway; it has a shelter and a fire pit. There are two well-equipped fire pits in total on the Markkuu Nature Trail. You can stay overnight in a hut, a shelter or your own tent. In comparison, the Temmes walking tour takes just under an hour, while the Markkuu trail is described in terms of its distance and challenging sections.
In Suutarinkylä, the Suutarinjärvi bathing spot has a shelter, changing rooms, a toilet and a fire pit. As its opening status may change, check the current status of the facility before your visit.
