Lundby between Nature Trails and Cultural Heritage
Lundby offers two distinct natural landscapes: Lundby Bakker is a protected natural area, while Lundby Krat is designated as a natural forest without regular forestry management. Together with the area's historic architectural forms, this creates a destination for travelers who want to consciously explore nature, activity, and cultural history side by side.
Hills, Ravines, and Forest
Lundby Bakker is very hilly, with deep ravines and steep slopes. The area was formed during the last Ice Age as a terminal moraine. The highest points are Alsbjerg at 73 meters and Risbjerg at 83 meters. This topography shapes the trails and makes changes in elevation an essential part of the landscape experience. When planning routes through Lundby Bakker, both the inclines and the cuts in the terrain therefore need to be taken into account.
Starting Points and Green Spaces
At Festpladsen by Lundby Bakker, there are several picnic table sets, a barbecue area, a fire pit, and a toilet. The circular route through Lundby Krat can be started at the pedestrian tunnel beneath Hadsund Landevej or at the parking area by the dog forest at Hadsund Landevej 255. Lundby Krat has a shelter site with four shelters and a fire pit.
Forest Nature and Birdlife
Lundby Krat consists mainly of oak and beech forest; hazel and black alder also grow in the southeast. At the same time, Lundby Krat is an old forest that was formerly used for grazing, with oak and beech trees. Around 60 bird species have been recorded in Lundby Krat. The combination of forest structure and birdlife gives nature enthusiasts several specific points of interest during their stay.
Cultural Heritage in Lundby
Lundby is designated as a valuable cultural heritage area. In the nature-protected area of Lundby Bakker stands Lundby Hedehus, an old thatched-roof house. Alsbjerghuset is a small farmstead from the 18th or 19th century in Lundby Bakker. Lundby also has the regular structure of a linear village along a road (vejforteby). Lundby Hedehus can be used by prior reservation. South of Lundby, Kongehøj is among the prehistoric monuments.
MTB through Hilly Terrain
For active days, Lundby Bakker near Gistrup offers an approximately 6-kilometer MTB route through hilly terrain with many challenging climbs and descents. The route features black-marked challenges for experienced riders and a green-marked option for less experienced riders. This allows riders to choose their route according to the marked level of challenge, while the approximate route length remains a separate planning factor.
At Festpladsen by Ishytten, a car gathering took place on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to compare Lundby with other destinations in the wider surrounding area can also include Tylstrup, Aalborg, Hou, Ajstrup, Gistrup, Store Restrup, Binderup, and Mou.
