Svenstrup: Guldbækstien, Svanemølleparken and Romanesque Church

Svenstrup can be explored through trails, bodies of water and a distinctive building. The main highlights are the Svanemølleparken recreational area, several routes for hiking and cycling, and the Romanesque Svenstrup Church. From the stream through Østerådalen to Romanesque architectural elements, Svenstrup offers a broad range of themes.

Water and recreation in Svenstrup

Svanemølleparken is a recreational area in Svenstrup. It includes Lake Svanemøllesøen and a section of the Guldbækken. Lake Svanemøllesøen was excavated and cleaned. The lake and the section of the Guldbækken in Svanemølleparken are designated by the municipality as free fishing spots.

Trails along the Guldbækken

Guldbækstien is a 5 km unpaved trail from Godthåb to Svenstrup. A large part of the route runs along the Guldbækken. For a hike, the trail therefore provides a clearly defined connection between Godthåb and Svenstrup, while the route along the stream shapes the landscape along the way. When planning this route, both the five-kilometre length and the unpaved surface should therefore be taken into account.

Cycling and hiking routes of different lengths

Svenstrup also has several trails for longer outings. Østerådalstien is a continuous cycling and walking path from the centre of Aalborg through Østerådalen North and South to Dall Møllevej at Svanemølleparken in Svenstrup. Bjergbanestien enables hikes and cycling trips from Svenstrup to Nibe without having to use heavily trafficked roads. It follows the route of a former railway line. On foot and by bicycle, the trails form different lines: along the Guldbækken, through Østerådalen and along the former railway line.

Natural areas south of Aalborg

Hærvejen offers a 30 km hiking route between Aars and Svenstrup. South of Aalborg, the route passes through natural areas with fields, trees and small streams. At 30 km, Hærvejen is considerably longer than the 5 km Guldbækstien.

Historical architectural forms

Svenstrup Church is a Romanesque church with a Romanesque apse and chancel, a Romanesque nave, and several later additions. Those who take architectural features into account alongside hiking and nature experiences when choosing a destination will find a distinct architectural theme here, right in Svenstrup. The Romanesque apse and chancel and the Romanesque nave stand alongside the later additions.

Practical information

A specific limitation is important when planning around the Svenstrup Syd route: there are no parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the route. Take this information into account when deciding how to organise your outing to the trails and natural areas.

If you would like to expand your choice of destination beyond Svenstrup, you can also consider Hals, Vadum, Vodskov, Store Restrup, Hou, Dokkedal, Storvorde or Farstrup.
