Ydre between Lake Sommen, nature reserves and cultural history

Nature and water

Naturum Sommen is located on Torpön in Lake Sommen. A large aquarium displays fish from the lake; during the season, Naturum Sommen offers guided tours. Lake Sommen is home to 22 fish species, including the Sommen charr, which has survived there since the Ice Age. Torpön also has a hiking trail that runs around the entire island. Ydre includes the localities of Rydsnäs and Österbymo.

These three details make it possible to compare the desired period, room type and the conditions for a possible change or cancellation side by side.

Activities

The Norra Vi Trail begins at Norra Vi Church in Ydre and is 50 kilometres long. It runs mainly along gravel roads; the entire route is accessible by car. The cycling options in Ydre include routes along gravel roads and paved roads. Length and surface are two directly comparable features.

In Ydrefors, there is a nine-kilometre hiking and cycling trail that begins at Brosjögården. The trail through Hedners park is approximately 700 metres long and partly adapted for accessibility. Torpavallen in Hestra has an 18-hole disc golf course. There are around 100 lakes for fishing in Ydre; a fishing licence is required for all of them.

Nature reserves

Hedners park is a restored botanical cultural heritage site from the 19th century. As a nature reserve, Hedners park is particularly valuable because of its old, vigorous deciduous trees and its diverse woodland surroundings. The Sandstorpskärret nature reserve contains steeply sloping open mires; this type of natural environment is rare in this part of Sweden. There is no car park or other visitor facilities there, but the area can be visited independently and at your own discretion. The Susehålsravinen nature reserve in Ydre is a destination for excursions, with its waterfalls.

Culture and history

The Andrew Peterson Museum displays his diary entries, information about emigration, photographs and objects such as tools from his life. Skolmuseet is located in a school building from 1872 in Asby. Smedstorps dubbelgård is an old, quadrangular farmstead surrounded by a well-preserved cultural landscape; one of the buildings contains a museum section.

The water-powered Österfors smedja forge was built in 1876. Each year, it is open to visitors for a few weeks during the summer and conveys the history of the forge as well as the craftsman's skills. Sunds bruk today consists of the ruins of a blast furnace; drawings, photographs and information signs on the site convey an impression of what the place looked like around a hundred years ago.

Culinary experiences

Nääs Gårdsbryggeri has a beer-tasting room, a restaurant, a pub and a farm shop. Brostorps gård produces cheese and runs a summer café and a farm shop.
