Uulu

Uulu combines historic cultural sites with paths through a rose garden, along an old carriage avenue and through coastal pine forests. If you are looking for a place for your trip where history, walks and a section of the EuroVelo 10 route can be combined, Uulu offers several clearly distinct points of interest for this purpose.

Church, Rose Garden and Historic Paths

The Uulu Church is at the heart of the area's history. It was built in 1880 as a memorial to Eleonore Staël von Holstein and was the Staël von Holstein family's private church. Today, the church is privately owned and operated as the UKI Uulu Church Culture and Holiday Village. The UKI Uulu Church Culture and Holiday Village offers facilities for holding events in a former church building and guesthouse.

The historic surroundings can also be explored on foot. A forest path runs through Uulu's historic Rose Garden Park and ends at the bridge over the Uulu Canal. In the rose garden created by Baron Stael von Holstein, the historic rose bed has been restored; a memorial has also been erected. This means that the garden can be experienced not only as a park, but also through tangible reminders of its history.

Another distinctive link to the past is Akaatsia Avenue. The historic carriage avenue, more than one kilometre long, is lined with acacia trees and oaks. This provides a variety of landscapes for a walk: the forest path through Rose Garden Park, the route to the bridge over the Uulu Canal and the tree-lined avenue.

A Place for Cultural and Nature Experiences

The history of public events is also part of Uulu's character. The Pärnu kihelkonna laulupidu took place in 1867 at Uulu Pier and on the grounds of the rose garden; it was the first event of its kind in Estonia.

For active days, the UKI Uulu Church Culture and Holiday Village has hiking trails along the acacia avenue and through coastal pine forests. The trails complement the cultural and historical sites with a nature-focused dimension, without requiring you to combine the individual themes into a single attraction. Depending on whether you want to focus on the rose garden, the avenue, the church or the forest paths, your stay can have different focal points.

Local Event and Food Market

Uulu Lamba Vest includes a local food market. The family festival was held for the tenth time. Those who visit Uulu for such an occasion experience not only the historic sites but also a specific local event setting with market activity. The combination of the festival, food market and the cultural sites described above as permanent attractions also makes the place interesting for travellers who want to discover regional culture not only through buildings, but also through events.

Uulu as a Section of a Cycling Route

For orientation by bicycle, the EuroVelo 10 route is another point of reference: it runs south from Pärnu to Uulu Park. Uulu can therefore also be considered in the context of a longer route.

Other Places in the Same Broader Area

For further orientation, you can also consider Pärnu, Salu, Tammiste, Leina, Saulepa, Papsaare, Kabli and Pootsi.
