Ostrowite: Hotels and Accommodation

Ostrowite is located in the Żuławy Gdańskie delta region and within the Żuławy Gdańskie Landscape Protection Area. The village is characterized by a dispersed settlement structure. The agriculturally dominated landscape includes historic irrigation canals; the fields feature strip farming oriented from east to west.

Village Character and Cultural Landscape

Ostrowite is partly laid out as a roadside village and partly as a linear village. The settlement lies on both sides of a road running from north to south and was first mentioned as early as 1292. On the road from Ostrowite towards Grabiny-Zameczek stands a well-preserved, characteristic Dutch-style farmstead that is worthy of protection.

The only named religious cultural heritage object in Ostrowite is a wayside chapel. The village’s name history also refers to former landscapes: the name Ostrowite has been associated with a lake that was drained in the 12th century during the drainage of the Żuławy and no longer exists today.

Historical Traces

Ostrowite was first mentioned in historical records in 1215. The forms Hostricza, Wostricza, Ostritcza, and Ostriza have been documented for the settlement. In 1945, Ostrowite and Suchy Dąb were merged into an administrative municipality called Suchy Dąb. After 1945, the name Ostrowite was given to a new settlement located west of Suchy Dąb.

Transport and Regional Connections

In the immediate vicinity of Ostrowite run National Road No. 1 from Gdańsk to Cieszyn and the Czech border, as well as the parallel A1 motorway. The national road forms part of the international E75 route. A few kilometres away, the international E-65 railway corridor between Gdynia and Warsaw also runs through the area. Rail services are provided by the station in nearby Pszczółki and the nearby railway junction station in Tczew.

Cycling and Water Routes

During the 8th Family Bicycle Rally (“VIII Rodzinny Rajd Rowerowy”), participants reached Ostrowite after travelling from Suchy Dąb via Skowarcz. Ostrowite is marked, together with the Motława, on an official map of kayaking routes in the Martwa Wisła and Śmiała Wisła area near Gdańsk.
