Oitme
Oitme combines coastal landscape, river nature and island-related culture within a compact thematic area. When choosing accommodation, not only the overnight stay details are of interest, but also the different places and activities around the village: a coastal pasture, the Oitme jõgi River, cycling opportunities, historic windmill culture and concert experiences at Triigi Harbour.
Coastal Pasture, River and Open Landscape
A scenic coastal pasture is located next to Oitme matkamaja. The Juhani property in Oitme presents another aspect of the landscape: it has juniper stands, alvar areas and coastal meadows. The coastal pasture represents the open proximity of the coast, while the juniper stands and alvar areas give the landscape impression of the Juhani property greater structure.
The Oitme jõgi River is also part of the landscape of the place. It lies in the “Väinamere nature area” and in the Väinamere hoiuala (Saare) protected area (KLO2000339). A section of the publicly accessible Oitme jõgi River is located in Oitme küla. The river section lies within the settlement and at the same time within a protected-area framework; this does not imply any specific access or bathing options. At this point, Oitme thus combines a settlement, a river landscape and a protected natural area.
Accommodation and Practical Facilities
Oitme matkamaja is a hostel in northern Saaremaa, in Leisi vald. It has rooms for two to five people, a kitchen and a sauna. The grounds next to Oitme matkamaja also include a lit event area and a stage. The adjacent recreation area includes a beach volleyball court and a mini-football pitch. For bicycle tourists, Oitme matkamaja offers secure bicycle storage. The event area, stage and sports courts supplement the accommodation with cultural and sporting uses on the grounds.
Oitme matkamaja and Oitme Hostel have different features: Oitme Hostel offers bicycle rental and is located on the grounds of a former kolkhoz. A kolkhoz was an agricultural collective farm; here, the term refers to a former type of use, not to a current facility of the hostel. Oitme matkamaja, on the other hand, includes rooms for two to five people, a kitchen, a sauna and secure bicycle storage for bicycle tourists. Thus, bicycle rental and overnight accommodation and storage options belong to different establishments.
Windmills, Museum and Concerts
One of the five windmills on Angla Windmill Mount is operational. The Angla Heritage Culture Centre is located nearby, with a museum dedicated to the island’s everyday and material culture from past centuries.
The nearby Triigi Philharmonia is also part of the cultural orientation. It offers concert experiences next to Triigi Harbour. The RMK Triigi campsite, a campsite close to the coast, is located near the same harbour. Thus, the wider area around Oitme offers both a cultural point of interest and a campsite explicitly described as being close to the coast, without any shared accommodation or route connection having to be inferred from this.
