Pädaste: Manor, Park and Baltic Sea

Pädaste combines a historic manor ensemble with landscaped parkland, the Baltic Sea and protected nature.

Manor and architectural history

The main building of Pädaste Manor is registered as a protected historic building in Pädaste küla. The earliest written history of the manor dates back to 1566. Its ensemble comprises five limestone buildings from the 19th century. The dating of the buildings and the written history therefore belong to different periods. They are arranged in a horseshoe shape and open towards the Baltic Sea. As a result, the historic character of the site can be understood not only from a single building, but also from the arrangement of the ensemble as a whole. The five buildings form a cohesive courtyard; towards the Baltic Sea, the complex remains open.

Beyond its architectural history, Pädaste also has cultural connections. Veski Ella and Mihkli Linda in Pädaste were involved with Roosimine, a form of embroidery. Roosimine adds textile handicraft to the site's cultural connections without limiting them to the manor building.

Park, shoreline and birdlife

The Pädaste Manor ensemble is located in a 7-hectare landscaped park surrounded by 22 hectares of meadows and forests. The park and shoreline of Pädaste are part of a nature conservation zone.

The Pädaste Bay is also part of the natural setting. It is a resting place for migrating geese, cranes, ducks and swans. Three pairs of white-tailed eagles breed near Pädaste. The birdlife therefore displays two different patterns: resting among the migratory species in the bay and breeding among the white-tailed eagles nearby.

Summer visits

Pädaste Park is open to visitors daily during the summer season, from 1 June to 31 August, from 12 noon to 7 p.m. This time restriction is relevant to specific visit planning: the park is not described as having opening hours that apply year-round and at all times, but rather as being open during a fixed period and daily hours.

For day visitors, Pädaste Yacht Club in the manor park offers a relaxed setting for lunch. Restaurant Alexander serves seasonal cuisine from the Nordic islands and uses local ingredients, including vegetables and herbs from the manor's gardens and greenhouse. The dining options therefore comprise two distinct offerings: lunch for day visitors at the Yacht Club and seasonal Nordic island cuisine at Alexander.

Travel via Muhu

There are frequent public transport connections to the island of Muhu for travelling to Pädaste Manor. A complimentary pick-up from Kuivastu harbour on Muhu can be arranged by prior agreement. In addition, a car ferry connects Kuivastu harbour on the island of Muhu with Virtsu harbour on the Estonian mainland; the crossing takes approximately 25 minutes. Kuivastu therefore has a dual role: the harbour is a pick-up point by prior arrangement and the departure point for the ferry to Virtsu.
