Grube: Hotels and Accommodation

Grube’s Baltic Sea access is the 2.5-kilometre-long Rosenfelder Strand, a free natural beach. There are sections for dog owners and naturist guests; the dune landscape is considered untouched.

Beach and Nature

The birdwatching station is located near Rosenfelder Strand and features three hectares of water and eleven hectares of extensively managed grassland. Three observation openings allow visitors to observe a wide variety of bird species from close range. The station is best reached on foot or by bicycle.

Near the church, white storks nest on the former dairy chimney at Haus Avalon. After their return from their wintering grounds, their nesting activity can be observed live.

Culture and History

The Grube Village Museum is housed in a typical house dating from around 1890 and presents a folklore and prehistoric collection on rural life before the arrival of modern technology. It also documents the harvesting and processing of reeds as well as the drainage of Lake Grube in 1938.

St. Jürgen Church in Grube was first documented in 1232 and is one of the oldest Early Gothic brick churches. It contains a significant 15th-century triptych altar, considered an important example of Late Gothic panel painting.

In the vicinity of Grube lies Siggeneben, a heritage-protected village connected with Grube and featuring whitewashed thatched-roof houses.

Paths and Landscape

From Grube, more than 300 kilometres of developed and signposted cycling and hiking trails can be used to explore the wider OstseeFerienLand region. In the surrounding region, the Oldenburg Graben lowland offers cycling and hiking trails through a 23-kilometre-long coastal lowland with cultural and landscape features.

From the Paasch-Eyler-Platz viewpoint, the view extends across the former lakebed of Lake Grube; information boards explain the history of this site. At Dunker’scher Platz, there are two competition-sized boules courts with views across the former lowland of Lake Grube.

Activities

The Grube Scout Camp includes a lake, several hills, a 400-metre-long canoeing course and an amphitheatre. Grube airfield, home to LSC Condor, offers introductory courses and sightseeing flights.
