Bad Malente-Gremsmühlen is nestled in the forests and lake landscape of the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park. The regional railway between Kiel and Lübeck stops in Plön, Malente and Eutin, supporting individual route planning.

Nature

Admission to Malente Wildlife Park is free. Its nature trails include an educational trail through native woodland with explanatory signs. The nature trails also feature habitats for wild bees, insects and small vertebrates. They are free of charge and open around the clock.

The Kellersee promenade follows the western shore of Lake Kellersee along a compacted-sand path that runs beside or behind the reed belt. The circular trail to the Holzberg Tower begins and ends at Malente railway station and offers views of Lake Dieksee and the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park.

Water

The five-lake cruise from Malente passes through Lake Dieksee, Lake Langensee, Lake Behlersee, Lake Höftsee and Lake Edebergsee; the route is 12 kilometres long. At WunderWelt Wasser, visitors can explore aquatic habitats across a 13-hectare site via elevated wooden walkways that lead through wet meadows. The Malente Tourist Information offers guided tours of WunderWelt Wasser on request.

Canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are available in Malente. Local rental stations offer equipment hire, beginner lessons and guided tours.

Culture

Gut Rothensande is a Baroque estate with a manor house dating from 1911 that overlooks Lake Kellersee. The Tews Kate Museum has a permanent exhibition of agricultural equipment, household furnishings and tools.

Holstein Katenschinken is considered a culinary speciality for visitors taking a break in Malente.
