Pelzerhaken: South Beach, Coastal Landscape and Water Sports

Pelzerhaken offers you a choice on the Baltic Sea between wide beaches, maritime activities and nature-oriented walks. When deciding on the focus of your holiday, the town is primarily characterised by its coastal features and the opportunities by the water. The coastal landscape between Pelzerhaken and Rettin is a FFH area with a complete sequence consisting of a former cliff that is now wooded, a former lagoon depression used as grassland, a coastal dune and beach-ridge system, and an offshore beach. In addition to Pelzerhaken, you can also include Rettin in your choice of location.

Beach and Pier on the Bay of Lübeck

Pelzerhaken has the only south-facing beach on the Bay of Lübeck. The sandy beach is over 2 kilometres long and is ideal for extended walks. The pier extends exactly 135 metres out from the shore; at its end, you are surrounded by the sea on all sides. This makes it possible to distinguish a long beach walk from the experience on the pier as two different coastal moments when choosing your location. The precise length also makes the pier a clearly defined section for a walk by the water.

Water Sports for Different Interests

Water sports in Pelzerhaken also have a distinct profile. The shallow water at the surf schools is also suitable for beginners. Sail&Surf Pelzerhaken offers courses in windsurfing, catamaran sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing and WING surfing. In addition, Sail&Surf Pelzerhaken provides training for the internationally recognised VDWS licence. If you would like to focus your stay on activities by the water, you can choose between several types of courses instead of limiting the location to just one sport. This allows you to make your choice based on your preferred sport and the focus you want for the day.

Walking Paths and Coastal Landscape

The dune boardwalk along Pelzerhaken beach enables accessible walks, including with prams and wheelchairs. The small Dittmer Forest in Pelzerhaken is suitable for short walks or a brief walk with your dog. The amber tour on Pelzerhaken beach offers another perspective on the Baltic Sea coast. Together with nature guide Martin C. Roos, it provides information about the formation, history and significance of amber and includes searching for amber on the Baltic Sea coast. Registration is required for this tour. Registration is therefore part of planning this activity, while the beach is also described as a walking destination in its own right.

Further Orientation in the Town

The ParkGolf facility in Pelzerhaken has a total of 12 walkable holes. Pelzerhaken Chapel is located at the highest elevation in Pelzerhaken. Larger parking areas near the beach can be found on Dünenweg (P15), Auf der Pelzerwiese / Surf City (P13) and on Strandweg in Rettin (P10). The chapel complements the information about the beach, forest and water with another destination in the town.
