St. John's Church in Oldenburg in Holstein was built between 1156 and 1160 as a Romanesque basilica. It is considered the oldest brick church in Northern Europe.

The history of the Oldenburg ring wall and the Slavs in Ostholstein is conveyed through archaeological findings and reconstructions. The Wall Museum presents early medieval life in Starigard from the perspectives of merchants, craftspeople, farmers, fishermen, warriors, princes and bishops.

On some days, the Wall Museum's program includes practical activities such as bread baking, wool combing, spoon carving and leatherworking. On some days, boat trips on Lake Wall are also possible from the Wall Museum.

In the town center, shopping opportunities, restaurants, cafés and a lively market square come together with a concentration of attractions related to Slavic and medieval heritage.

Nature and Cycling Paths

The Oldenburg Graben lowlands contain the Wesseker See, Weißenhäuser Brök and Oldenburger Bruch nature reserves. These nature reserves are important for plant and animal life, particularly for bird migration.

The Oldenburg Graben lowlands have an extensive network of cycling and hiking trails. Oldenburg in Holstein's cycling network includes the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route and the Monks' Way.

The disc golf course is free to use and open to families and groups as well as recreational and tournament play. Discs and scorecards are available at the municipal library at Schauenburger Platz 2.

The motorhome parking area next to the Wall Museum offers eight spaces. Overnight stays of several days are not permitted there.
