Nature and History

A short, easy circular route around Sarkwitz leads through the Schwartau Valley to the Blocksberg ring wall. Over 3.7 kilometres, it passes a waterfall and the Schwartau River, as well as woodland, small lakes and narrow paths. Places to sit or have a picnic are also part of the route. In the immediate surroundings of Sarkwitz, the Schwartau Valley combines views of the Schwartau River with a wooded landscape and the former Slavic ring wall at Blocksberg. The route through the Schwartau Valley starts in Packan and leads directly into the woodland from there.

Paths in the Village

Sarkwitz also has a route locally described as a village circular walk, running from the pond along the village street towards Ahrensbök. Unlike the circular route through the Schwartau Valley, this route provides orientation through the village street, direction of travel and named local references.

The two route descriptions can therefore be read according to different features. The Schwartau Valley route focuses on a complete circuit, its distance and the sequence of natural and historical points. The village walk, by contrast, follows a sequence of places from the pond via Ahrensbök, Fiefhusen and Malkendorf back to the settlement. This distinction keeps the information about the landscape and village structure clearly separate.
