Nature and trails

A 12-kilometre circular hiking trail of moderate difficulty leads through the Bistensee area and onwards towards Ahlefeld. It takes approximately three hours. Part of the route is suitable for cyclists.

The route around Lake Bistensee crosses the landscape between the Duvenstedt Hills and the Hütten Hills. Along the way, beech forests, hedgerow landscapes, viewpoints and waterside rest areas shape the surroundings.

In the immediate vicinity of Ahlefeld, the infrastructure on the eastern shore of Lake Bistensee includes a campsite with pitches, holiday homes by the lake, a jetty and fishing opportunities.

Culture

The surrounding area of Ahlefeld is home to the rune stone, Gottorf Castle, the State Museum, Haithabu and St John’s Monastery.

Mövenberg is also located in the surrounding area. Aschberg is in the immediate vicinity of Ahlefeld. In the wider regional area are the wildlife park and Lindholm.
