Aukrug’s central location between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea makes it suitable for day trips to both coasts as well as to Hamburg or Kiel. At the same time, numerous cycle paths and signposted circular hiking trails run through the surrounding area. The landscape can also be experienced while gliding or on horseback.

Culture

Aukrug-Bünzen is home to Dat ole Hus, a local history museum housed in a thatched building that was first erected around 1700 and rebuilt in 1804. It showcases traditional regional rural domestic culture and equipment from approximately 1750 to 1850; interior visits are possible with a guided tour. Dat ole Hus combines a museum visit with fresh waffles served with red fruit jelly.

The Wichernkirche Neumünster and Kreuzkirche Neumünster churches are located in the area around Aukrug. Further afield in the region are the Herb Museum and St. George’s Church in Jevenstedt.

Landscape

The Sandberg and Boxberg hills are located close to Aukrug. Leinberg and Liethberg are also situated in the surrounding area.
