Between Bendorf and Oersdorf, the Iselbek flows through a landscape where waterways, lowlands, farm tracks, and historic mills are closely interconnected. The Kiel Canal also provides a distinctive regional reference.

Water Landscape

The Bendorfer Bach rises north of Bendorf. Near Oersdorf, it flows into the Iselbek; together, the two waterways form a branching watercourse. The Iselbek flows into the Kiel Canal near Hohenhörn. The canal forms part of Bendorf’s municipal boundary and can be explored.

Landscape and Nature

The area around Bendorf features open agricultural landscapes, the Bondenschiften woodland, and the structured Osterfahrbek–Iselbek lowlands, which are classified as a landscape area with a very high landscape character. Species listed for the Iselbek area with Lindhorster Teich include brook lamprey and river lamprey. The cadastral districts of Bendorf and Oersdorf also include Lindhorster Teich. Four of Schleswig-Holstein’s six nature parks are located in Rendsburg-Eckernförde district.

History and Village Character

Bendorf comprises the villages of Bendorf and Oersdorf; both have been inhabited since approximately 500 to 800 AD. The Hohenhörner Kornwassermühle grain watermill was established in the Oersdorf area around 1530. The Lohmühle was built in the Bendorf area around 1670.

On the Road between Farm Tracks and the Canal

Well-maintained farm tracks in Bendorf invite visitors to hike and cycle. Rendsburg-Eckernförde district offers five long-distance cycle routes, five e-bike tours, and twelve themed routes. The district’s cycle routes range from 24 to 79 kilometres and run through scenic natural areas and past points of interest. The district’s five signposted cycle routes mainly use roads with little traffic.
