The monastery church on Lindenplatz is Bordesholm’s oldest surviving listed monument. It was built between 1230 and 1510; inside is a late Gothic bronze tomb monument for Anna of Brandenburg and Frederick I of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp.

Culture and History

The monastery island complex in Bordesholm developed after the former collegiate foundation was relocated there in 1330. Before the church and monastery buildings were constructed, an island in Lake Bordesholm was connected to the mainland by three causeways.

The monastery church and its vaulted cellar can be visited daily from 09:00 to 17:00, provided that no other event is taking place; guided tours are offered for groups and school classes.

Nature and Surroundings

In the area around the center of Bordesholm are the Herb Museum, a museum, as well as Kreuzkirche Neumünster and Wichernkirche Neumünster, both of which are churches. Aalberg, a hill, is also located in this area.

In the wider regional surroundings of the center of Bordesholm are the museum “Marine-Ehrenmal, Laboe” and the islands of Kleiner Werder, Tempel, and Ascheberger Warder.
