Around 1 km south of Dätgen lies the Großes Moor raised bog, covering an area of approximately 400 hectares. This raised bog is associated with the discovery of the “Man of Dätgen” in 1959, a bog body dating from the 2nd to 4th century. The find is exhibited at the archaeological museum in Gottorf Castle. Renaturation measures in the Großes Moor included rewetting 81 hectares, work on around 15 hectares of existing water areas, approximately 5.75 km of embankments, and 57 ditch dams.
