The manor house, built in 1730, forms the centre of Gut Emkendorf. The parkland adjoining the manor house includes Lake Hasensee; behind the building there is also an English landscape garden that is ideal for walks.

Culture and History

The approximately four-kilometre-long Emkendorf Avenue represents the estate and landscape culture of the late 18th and 19th centuries. During this period, the Emkendorf Circle was formed at Gut Emkendorf, whose members included Klopstock, the Stolberg brothers, Lavater and Matthias Claudius. Concerts are regularly held in the large barn in Emkendorf, including performances associated with the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.

Visiting and Overnight Stays

Gut Emkendorf is open to visitors. Weddings, trade fairs, markets and conferences are held there, and guided tours are also offered. The manor house has five rustic double rooms for overnight stays.

Landscape and Water

Emkendorf is located in the Westensee Nature Park; the municipality also includes the Methorst nature reserve. Extensive forests and bodies of water in hilly terrain characterise the landscape.

There is a developed bathing area at Emkendorfer Dörpsee. Facilities include a sunbathing lawn, sanitary facilities and changing rooms, as well as a snack bar.
