Culture and History

The Hanerau-Hademarschen Local History Museum features East German rooms and a Theodor Storm room. It also documents the history of the Kiel Canal and the Grünental High Bridge. The oldest parts of St. Severin’s Church in Hanerau-Hademarschen are almost 1,100 years old.

The main attraction at the Signal Box Museum is an old signal box. Its technical equipment allows visitors to understand how signal boxes operated in the second half of the 20th century.

Nature and Elevation

The Hademarscher Berge rise up to 67 metres above the Holstein landscape. Visitors can see a megalithic tomb there; the parkland of the Hademarscher Berge is also home to nine other prehistoric sites. At the summit of the Hademarscher Berge, a converted flak tower serves as a viewing point.

Outdoor Activities

Visitors can use signposted cycling, hiking and horse-riding trails around Hanerau-Hademarschen. Other outdoor activities include swimming and fishing along the Kiel Canal, the Eider and the Haaler Au.

For summer recreation, Hanerau-Hademarschen has a heated swimming pool. The OutEx treetop park offers a high ropes course with a treetop trail and individual support.

Transport

Hanerau-Hademarschen railway station is located on the Neumünster–Büsum railway line.
