The Molfsee Open-Air Museum presents the everyday and cultural history of rural Schleswig-Holstein. The site covers approximately 40 hectares. Historic farmhouses, cottages, barns, and rural craft workshops are furnished with furniture, household items, and work tools.

In the museum presentation, the historic buildings are grouped according to their regions of origin; they represent differences in architecture, domestic culture, agriculture, and rural crafts. The site also includes a steam-powered dairy and three windmills.

The Jahr100Haus is largely accessible, while access to the open-air grounds and historic buildings is limited. At the Räucherkate next to the open-air museum, Kulturkate Molfsee organizes four to six cultural evenings each year. The Molfsee Open-Air Museum also offers bookable guided tours and workshops.

Nature and trails

The Molfsee Open-Air Museum is located on the eastern edge of Westensee Nature Park. The Eider Valley is a glacially shaped cultural landscape covering approximately 350 hectares of land, which is maintained through extensive grazing.

Konik horses and Heck cattle can be observed from the Eider Valley hiking trail. The trail is suitable for cycling away from paved roads and features information boards, benches, and shelters. Bus connections as well as the railway stations Flintbek and Bordesholm provide access to the Eider Valley hiking trail by public transport.
