Neudorf-Bornstein: Hotels and Accommodation

In Bornstein, a new cycle path leads through fields and hedgerow landscapes towards the Baltic Sea. A 3.4-kilometre cycle path also runs from the town entrance coming from Gettorf through Bornstein to Hofholz, where it connects to another cycle path. The final 200 metres lie within the municipality of Holtsee. Along the B 76 between Neudorf-Bornstein and Altenhof, the footpath and cycle path were renewed from 4 October 2023 to 18 June 2024.

Cycle Paths and Landscape

The municipality names hiking and cycling as ways to experience the landscape of Dänischer Wohld around Neudorf-Bornstein. This includes glacially formed incised valleys, broad meadows, an open estate landscape and a gently rolling hedgerow landscape.

Natural Environment

The Hülkenbek lowlands feature nature conservation measures, extensive grassland use and wetlands that have been created or enhanced for meadow birds and amphibians. The football pitch in Bornstein is used by cyclists and walkers as a place to rest and play.

History and Local Symbols

The princely graves of Neudorf-Bornstein are richly furnished graves from the 3rd century AD; they were excavated between 1967 and 1970. Neudorf was first recorded in the Gettorf church records in 1460 under the name Niegedorpp. Bornstein was recorded in 1506 under the name Tome Bordenstene.

The coat of arms also refers to local history and landscape. The wave-shaped line represents the Hülkenbek, a watercourse between Neudorf and Bornstein. The green gable board symbolises the Low German hall house, the traditional type of house in the historic villages. The stone well in the coat of arms symbolises Bornstein: Born means well and Stein means stone.

Hiking Route 1 – Bornstein starts at the Bornstein car park next to the Arp country inn. The municipality offers holiday homes and holiday apartments in quiet locations.

Local Addresses

The Bornstein country inn is more than 100 years old and serves regional cuisine. Wedding ceremonies can be held in the fountain room of the Bornstein country inn.

There are car parks directly in front of the Bornstein Landmarkt. Among other things, it sells eggs, cheese, potatoes, organic milk, butter, honey, meat and sausage products, bread, sweets, drinks and snacks; Danish products are also available.
