Steenfeld is located directly on the Kiel Canal and is considered a destination for water-based activities and canal excursions. The Kiel Canal Cycle Route runs through the town.

Culture and History

The preserved Fischerhütte chain ferry was built in 1950 and has been located on the southern bank since 1992. Steenfeld is documented in a deed dating from 1148. In parts of the town, preserved thatched-roof houses shape the townscape.

Leisure

Hiking excursions, cycling tours, and horseback riding are promoted as leisure activities in Steenfeld. Steenfeld is also considered a place with two pony farms offering leisure programs for children and young people. These programs include caring for the ponies and horseback riding on weekends and during school holidays.
