Alt Bennebek is located in the Sorge lowlands on the boundary between the geest and marshland, at the southeastern edge of the Stapelholm river and natural landscape.

Alt Bennebek extends from the Schleswig geest into the Eider-Treene-Sorge lowlands. Small streams, moors and former oak forests characterize the landscape.
The Eider-Treene-Sorge landscape includes broad river lowlands, raised and lowland bogs, reed beds, wet meadows and natural shallow lakes. Rare animal and plant species adapted to wetlands have been preserved in the lowlands.
Nature-oriented tourism and sustainable land management are promoted in the Eider-Treene-Sorge region.

Paddling and fishing are among the leisure activities around Alt Bennebek. The same applies to hiking and birdwatching.
The Eider-Treene-Sorge Cycle Route combines experiences of nature and regional culture over 165 kilometers.
History
Stone Age finds provide evidence of settlement in the Alt Bennebek outwash plain between approximately 4300 and 2300 BC.
The diversion dike visible today was completed between 1628 and 1631. Historically, it created a route connecting Meggerdorf and Erfde with Alt Bennebek.
Alt Bennebek is also associated with a mention dating from 1340, in which a farm called Villa Bennebeke is named.
Getting Around
Rural road 40 leads from Alt Bennebek toward Kropp and Erfde. There is also a regional bus connection.
