Culture and History

The Schifferkirche, completed in 1673, is the oldest building in Arnis. An original half-timbered wall has been preserved on its north side. Inside, there are four votive ships donated by sailors in gratitude for protection during their voyages.

Getting Around Arnis

Visitors leave their cars in the car park at the entrance and explore Arnis on foot. Parking within the town is reserved for residents with a permit; access to the ferry is exempt.

Arnis offers moorings for boats and ships of various sizes and with different draughts. Visitors arriving by boat can use slipways and crane facilities in Arnis.

Nature and Trails

The nature trail leads via Pappelweg to the grazing project in the Arnisser Noorwiesen. It explains the lowland peatland habitat of the Noorwiesen for animals and plants.

On the Schlei, Arnis has a shallow bathing area with a gentle entry into the water, making it suitable for families with small children. A footpath runs along the Schlei beside Arnis's bathing area.

The Arnis–Kappeln route is a 13.60-kilometre circular hiking trail.

The Schlei and Connections

The Schlei region features varied hilly shores, bays and noors. The region has moorings for boats and ships of various sizes and with different draughts.

The Arnis–Sundsacker cable ferry connects Angeln and Schwansen across the Schlei. Before travelling, check the ferry's current official channels, as its operating status may vary.
