Rabel: Hotels and Accommodation

Rabel lies between the Schlei and the Baltic Sea, on the Rabelsund inlet of the Schlei in eastern Angeln. The village is officially recognized as a recreational resort.

Nature and History

Rabel is located in the Schlei Nature Park. To the south, the village borders the Schlei; to the east, near Gut Buckhagen, it borders the Wormshöfter Noor. The northern section of the Schlei, to which Rabel belongs, is part of the European Natura 2000 protected-area network.

The Rabelsund is a prominent local landmark where the Schlei reaches a depth of 22 metres. The historic fish weirs associated with Gut Buckhagen were used there for fishing until 1905. One of the attractions in Rabel is Gut Buckhagen.

Exploring the Schlei

In the northern Schlei area, there are designated paths for cyclists and walkers, some along the shore and others inland. Hikers and cyclists can enjoy the expansive landscape directly along the Schlei.

The “Along the Schlei Shore to the Rabelsund” route is an easy, 5.03-kilometre circular trail without a paved surface. It starts in Rabel and follows farm tracks and lightly trafficked roads. The Rabelsund hiking route crosses extensive rapeseed fields. Near Rabel, the Schlei shore appears as a small cliff coast offering views across the water.

Excursions and Activities

The kilometre-long sandy beach near Kronsgaard is a worthwhile excursion destination to combine with visits to Rabel. Geltinger Birk is also one of the excursion destinations associated with visits to Rabel. Activities associated with visits to Rabel also include boat trips on the Schlei.
