Glücksburg combines castle history with activities along the coast and the fjord. Glücksburg Castle was built from 1582 to 1587 on behalf of Duke Johann (Hans) the Younger. At the municipal beach area in Sandwig, the facilities and activities include swimming, long walks, play opportunities for families, stand-up paddleboard rentals, SUP courses and events, restaurants and cafés along the promenade, and beach chair rentals.

Bus route 21 runs from Flensburg ZOB to Glücksburg and back.

Culture and History

In 1923, Glücksburg Castle was opened to the public as a museum. The museum's culturally and historically valuable collection included works of art, tapestries, porcelain, and furniture.

The neoclassical orangery in the castle park can be rented for concerts, art exhibitions, and other events. A free audio guide app is also available for Glücksburg Castle.

The Fördesteig is a coastal hiking trail more than 95 kilometres long that leads to Glücksburg.

The Hanseatic Yachtschule Glücksburg is located directly on the Flensburg Fjord, within sight of the Danish coast. It combines practical sailing experience with theoretical instruction.

The Förde Golf Club Glücksburg has an 18-hole course overlooking the Flensburg Fjord.

The Glücksburg Forest Museum presents an exhibition about native animals and their forest habitat; the descriptions are in German and Danish. The museum also contains a collection of Neolithic finds from Glücksburg's past.

The Menke Planetarium regularly hosts public events, lectures, and astronomical presentations.

Fördeland Therme features a children's area with a lighthouse slide and paddling pool, a 25-metre swimming lane, and five saunas – ranging from a steam sauna to a fire sauna.
