History

At the entrance to Selk stands the Königshügel Monument, which is associated with the German-Danish War of 1864. The Kograben ends in Selk and was formerly part of the Danevirke defense system. Selk is also associated with a battle between Viking kings that is said to have taken place there in 872; the area has numerous burial mounds and barrows.
