Nübel: Hotels and accommodation

St. Mary's Church in Nübel is a Romanesque church. It was built partly of brick and partly of fieldstone; its brick-built choir and east wall are considered the probably oldest brick structure in Angeln, while later sections were continued in fieldstone. The church was first documented at the end of the 12th century.

Culture and history

Romanesque round-arched windows have been preserved in the choir and nave. Large segmental-arched windows with brick surrounds were added in the 15th century; the portal and porch date from the same construction phase. The wooden bell tower has had its present form since 1765. The village church is listed and is enclosed to the north and west by a cemetery and to the south and east by a fieldstone wall.

Museums and collections

The Kurt Hansen Nübel-Schaalby Fire Brigade Museum illustrates the development of fire protection from the fire bucket to the water tender. Its collection began in 1960 and covers the history and development of firefighting from 1870 to 1945 and beyond. On 300 square metres, uniforms, awards, certificates, equipment, pumps, fittings and breathing apparatus from regional fire brigades in Schleswig-Flensburg are on display. Guided tours and visits by school classes are possible by arrangement.

The collection of folk-art granite stones began in 1977 and preserves historic granite stones. The Old Smithy collection documents everyday village life in a smithy.

Cycling route

The KirchTörn begins and ends at a car park and runs mainly over flat, paved terrain. After reaching St. Mary's Church, the route continues to Nübel and through the gentle landscape of Angeln.
