Stolk: Hotels and Accommodation

Near Stolk lies Lüngmoor between the municipalities of Stolk and Süderfahrenstedt. Stolk’s Lüngmoor is a 38-hectare raised bog divided into plots 15 or 30 metres wide, known as “Schifte”.

Nature and Landscape

Lüngmoor is designated as a protected landscape area. Peat was extracted as fuel in Stolk’s Lüngmoor until 1963; an initial attempt to restore the Lüngmoor took place between 1979 and 1983. Raised-bog habitats are low in minerals, acidic and wet. They provide a habitat for specialised and, in some cases, highly endangered plant and animal species. In Lüngmoor, moorland sheep were intended to keep larger vegetation growth in check.

Trails and Classification

On the overview map of the Schlei Nature Park, Stolk is shown on the nearly 160-kilometre-long nature park hiking trail. Marked with yellow arrows, the trail passes through the region’s diverse natural and cultural landscapes and can be walked in shorter stages or as circular sections. Stolk is considered a place on the edge of the Schlei Nature Park.

There are bus connections from Stolk to Schleswig and Böklund.

Culture and History

There is a memorial on Stadtweg, also known as Schleppegrell-Weg. It commemorates a Schleswig-Holstein soldier who died while attempting to establish an independent democratic state of Schleswig-Holstein. As part of plans for a cycle path to the graves of those killed in the battles of 1850, the memorial was intended to be made accessible to the public. The site is called a memorial rather than a grave because there were no mortal remains to be reinterred.

Grave SL 23 is located on a footpath through Büchmoor.
