Båstad between coast, culture and hiking trails

Just outside Båstad, Norrvikens trädgårdar is located on the scenic coast. The gardens can be reached by car, local bus or bicycle and feature formal gardens created by Rudolf Abelin at the beginning of the 20th century.

Culture

In the centre of Båstad is Sveriges Tennismuseum, Sweden’s only tennis museum. Swedish tennis history is presented there through pictures, texts and films.

The Birgit Nilsson Museum can be reached from Båstad by bus 502 towards Torekov. At the museum, you can experience the farm where Birgit Nilsson played as a child and dreamed of a life in the world of singing and opera.

Föreningen Gamla Båstad preserves and documents the buildings of old Båstad. The town’s cultural heritage is made accessible through pictures, architectural history and the memories of local people.

Getting around

Båstad railway station is served by regional and long-distance trains and offers connections to Malmö, Gothenburg and Copenhagen. The surrounding area includes the towns of Båstad, Förslöv, Kattvik and Östra Karup.

The challenging coastal hike on the Bjäre Peninsula is 52 kilometres long and runs from Båstad via Torekov and Grevie back to Båstad.

Hiking and cycling

The 12-kilometre Kustslingan hiking trail starts in Malen. The Båstad Runt hiking trail starts at Båstad torg, while the blue Hålehall loop follows a forest path and is suitable for pushchairs.

The hike through Sinarpsdalen can be started at the exhibition venue or nature school in Dala near Båstad, or at Vitsippsvägen in Grevie; a bus stops at both ends. The western part of Sinarpsdalen features an agricultural landscape with high natural and cultural-historical values.

There are four cycling routes in Båstad: Kattegattleden, Cykelleden Skåne, Bjäre Banvall and Buktenleden. The sculpture “Vera & skogsharen” can be a destination, picnic spot and place to take a break during a cycling tour.

Nature

In the woodland south of Axelstorp, there are beech groves, ravines and a waterfall. Axelstorpsslingan starts in Båstad and passes through the nature reserve.

The sandy beach is a little more than 1 kilometre long and 15 to 25 metres wide; the water is very shallow and the seabed is sandy.

Golf

Båstad Golfklubb was founded in 1930 by Ludvig Nobel. Gamla Banan at Båstad Golfklubb is Sweden’s second-oldest 18-hole course.

Båstad Golfklubb offers members and guests opportunities to spend a full day playing golf, as well as a restaurant, a well-stocked shop and training facilities.

Regional routes

Gårdsbutikssafari is a circular tour across the Bjäre Peninsula to farm shops. It goes to Hov and onwards to Segelstorp before returning to Båstad; freshly harvested fruit and vegetables as well as handmade food products are available along the way.
