Glumslöv on the Öresund

Glumslöv combines a rolling agricultural landscape with views across the Öresund and towards Ven. The Glumslöv nature conservation area therefore showcases a landscape that characterizes the town on the west coast of Skåne. At the same time, Glumslöv is home to several cultural and historical points of interest: a Stone Age burial site, a Baroque castle, a church whose exact age is unknown, and a small museum. Glumslöv thus combines the coastal landscape with historical and cultural themes.

Landscape and hiking experience

For active days, the “Hike with views over the Öresund” follows the western coast of Skåne along the SL 5 section, Öresundsleden, of the Skåneleden trail. Glumslöv railway station serves as the starting point for the hike. This means the route begins at a specific point in the town and leads into the coastal area. The rolling agricultural landscape, the Öresund and the view of Ven define the character of the trail. The combination of these three landscape elements gives the experience a maritime character. The hike complements Glumslöv’s cultural and historical attractions with an active perspective and connects the open landscape with a clearly defined route.

Traces of history

The Örenäs passage grave is one of Sweden’s best-preserved Stone Age burial sites. It represents the region’s very early history and forms a clear contrast to the more recent buildings in Glumslöv. Örenäs Slott is a Baroque castle; it was built between 1914 and 1918. The time span extends from the Stone Age burial site to the construction of the castle in 1914–1918.

Another cultural point of interest is Pumphuset. It houses a small museum with an exhibition about the writer Amelie Posse. Her family history is also connected with Glumslöv: Amelie Posse’s family moved to Skåne at an early stage, to Villa Maryhill in Glumslöv. Pumphuset and Villa Maryhill connect the literary figure with specific places in Glumslöv and complement the architectural sights with a biographical dimension. As a result, the town’s history includes not only Stone Age and modern architecture, but also traces of a writer and her family.

Glumslöv Church

Glumslöv Church is visible far across the Öresund and as far as Zealand. The oldest parts are traditionally associated with the year 1193, while the exact age of the church is unknown. The vaults were added in the 15th century. The traditional date of 1193 refers to the oldest parts, not the exact age of the church as a whole. The vaults belong to a later phase of construction. The church therefore combines a widely visible landmark with a building history whose individual stages of development date back to the Middle Ages. It is a sacred building with a long, though not fully clarified, past.
