Hörby: Nature, Trails and Culture in Skåne
The Fulltofta recreation area in Hörby Municipality includes deep forests, open clearings, grazing land, heaths, old oaks, ponds and small streams. The choice of location depends less on a single highlight than on whether you want to hike, observe nature or explore traces of cultural history.
Hiking and nature in Fulltofta
Fourteen marked hiking trails are listed in the Fulltofta recreation area, including Vasahusslingan, Dansbanerundan, Sjömossen and Magnhilds runda. Ravinslingan is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. Fulltofta-Häggenäs is one of the nature reserves within the area. A special natural attraction is the stork enclosure in Fulltofta: The 2,500-square-metre flight aviary has nesting sites and around thirty pairs of storks.
Routes for different day plans
The trail lengths also offer different possibilities. Olofs is an eight-kilometre hiking loop through natural areas with numerous cultural-historical traces; Pickelhattakroken leads for seven kilometres towards the Fjällmossen nature reserve. For longer excursions, the 43-kilometre Banvallsled runs between Hörby, Tollarp and Kristianstad along asphalt and gravel roads, passing old station buildings and railway cottages. Cyclists can also use the Hörby MTB Arena, an XCO mountain-bike course with varied terrain and technical obstacles.
Nature centre and getting there
Fulltofta Nature Centre brings together practical information about hiking, maps and nature exhibitions; it also has a café and meeting facilities. At the café, you can get homemade lunches, fika, and filled or savoury sandwiches. For travel by public transport, regional bus 469 connects Höör and Hörby at weekends and stops at Fulltofta Nature Centre. Bus 470, which runs daily, stops on Road 13; from “Ramstorp Fulltofta”, the path leads directly to the red loop, from where it is about 1.5 kilometres to the nature centre.
Culture and events in Hörby
Cultural history is also present in the landscape around Hörby. Fulltofta has numerous prehistoric arable areas and stone cairns or cultivation cairns from the Stone Age, many of which are marked on the area map. At Karnas backe, seven information boards with stories and archival photographs tell of the area’s past. Hörby Marknad is a two-day tradition in July dating back to 1748 and featuring more than 400 market stalls, music, a fairground, a food street and a small-animal market. Hörby Kulturkalas takes place every May with music, dance, art and performances by local and national artists. Hörby Museum is currently closed as a visitor attraction because full accessibility cannot be guaranteed.
Choose accommodation to suit your travel focus
For additional day plans, Lågedammsbadet has indoor pools and, in summer, an outdoor pool, as well as a sauna, hot tub, children’s pool and water slide. If you are looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Hörby, you can therefore first decide on your preferred focus: trails and nature in Fulltofta, culture and events in Hörby, or a stay with a day at the pool. For further orientation around the area, you can also visit Älmhult, Sodrarorum and Hörby.
