Lomma on the Coast: Beaches, Nature and Culture

Lomma has a 21-kilometre coastline. Lomma railway station is nine minutes by train from central Malmö. The overview of the area also includes the entries Bjärred and Lomma.

Coast and Harbour

Lomma Beach is located north of the harbour entrance and close to restaurants and other services. Volleyball and football courts are directly adjacent to the beach. Hamnhusen, also known as T-bryggan, is close to the centre of Lomma, the bus stops and the harbour area.

At T-bryggan, there is an accessible bathing ramp and a beach wheelchair. Some sections of the Strandstråket are paved and accessible by wheelchair. The Strandstråket runs as a coastal walking and strolling path from the Spillepeng leisure area in the south to the Lödde å in the north. Strandfuret is a walking area next to Lomma Beach. Lomma Marina has 500 berths.

Nature and Birdlife

The Strandhusens revlar marine nature reserve is located southwest of Lomma in the southern Lommabukten. Its sandbanks are important for coastal and seabirds. The southern Löddeåns mynning nature reserve lies on the border between Lomma and Kävlinge, is part of the Natura 2000 network and has walking paths and barbecue areas along the river.

Domedejla mosse is a 12-hectare nature reserve with woodland, bodies of water and a hay meadow. At the mouth of the Lödde å, there is a birdwatching tower that can be used for birdwatching year-round.

Alnarpsparken has one of Sweden’s largest plant collections, particularly of trees and shrubs. Parts of an elm forest dating from the 18th century are still preserved in the park. Alnarpsparken provides space for recreation and walks.

Walking, Running and Cycling

Skåneleden sections 11, 12 and 13 pass through Lomma. Habo Fure has a three-kilometre forest running loop with a natural surface. In Fladängsparken, an approximately 400-metre loop runs around the park and along the Höje å; it is suitable for short intervals.

Karstorp has a varied, one-kilometre running loop that is accessible outside school hours. Lomma also has a network of cycle paths connecting the municipality with neighbouring municipalities.

Fishing by the Water

Fishing in Lomma includes sea fly-fishing and catching pike with a wobbler. A valid fishing licence or proof of fishing rights is required for fishing at Slättängsdammen.

Culture and History

Kraften is a former power station in Lomma and is used for cultural-historical and art exhibitions. The building is a square transformer station made of red brickwork, constructed in 1908.

Lomma kyrka was built in 1872 from yellow machine-made bricks and inaugurated in 1873. Its furnishings include a reconstructed altar from the oldest church and six painted panels from the 18th century.

A brick unloading hall from the second half of the 19th century is the surviving relic of Skånska Cementaktiebolaget’s first cement factory. Lomma’s local history includes its development into an industrial municipality during the 19th century, initially through brickworks and later through cement production.
