Churches nearby and trails through Söderslätt give a trip to Alstad different points of focus: medieval architecture and art history, as well as landscapes and route choices. Alstad was a former railway town on the old road between Malmö and Ystad; the Tullstorpsån also has its source here. Local history and wider connections along the routes therefore sit side by side.

Churches and historical traces

The church in Fru Alstad was built in the 15th century in honour of the Virgin Mary. Its central pillar is covered with carved and incised pilgrims’ marks; alongside its dedication, these offer specific details of the church’s design. The nearby church in Västra Alstad is documented from 1456 and is probably older. Its stained-glass windows were created by the artist Per Månsson. The comparison highlights different perspectives: at Fru Alstad, the focus is on the period of construction, dedication and pilgrims’ marks; at Västra Alstad, on the early documented date, its presumed greater age and the window art. Visitors interested in the history of sacred architecture will therefore find more than one historical point of reference in the area, but no single shared history for the two churches.

Trails through Söderslätt

Section 22 of the Skåneleden between Fru Alstad and Trelleborg passes through open fields, rows of willow trees, Bronze Age burial mounds and small villages in Söderslätt. Landscape features and traces of history sit side by side here: fields and rows of willows shape the surroundings, while the burial mounds provide a connection to the Bronze Age. Minnesbergsrundan is 15 km long and follows a section of the Skåneleden SL2 North to South. These routes offer different points of reference when choosing a route: Section 22 is characterised by its landscape features, while Minnesbergsrundan is defined by its distance and its route along SL2. When planning, you can first consider which kind of guidance you prefer—a sense of the landscape or a specified distance.

Local history and notable features

Another connection to regional history can be found nearby: Minnesberg grew in connection with the Minnesberg Brickworks, which operated from 1888 to 1993. This industrial history adds another aspect of the past to the area’s ecclesiastical and transport-related connections. Alstad’s former role as a railway town and its location on the old road between Malmö and Ystad are also part of its local history. The Tullstorpsån has its source in Alstad. The large Alstad silo complex is also a prominent landmark when viewed from the area beside the bus stop.

Transport and travel planning

A municipal overview from 2022 lists regional bus connections from Alstad towards Trelleborg, Anderslöv, Östra Grevie and Svedala. Check current routes and timetables before travelling. This should be distinguished from the planned project on Road 101 between Alstad and Östra Grevie: a footpath and cycle path is planned there to improve access and road safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The bus connections are therefore based on an earlier reference point, whereas the footpath and cycle path is described as a plan.
