Gnesta between historic trails, nature and culture
In the Gnesta area, Eriksgatan runs for 21 km from Björnlunda hembygdsgård in Björnlunda parish to Aspa in the south. Along the route are around 15 well-preserved prehistoric sites, cultural monuments, oak groves and natural areas. The direct choice of destinations includes Björnlunda, Stjärnhov and Gnesta.
Trails and landscape
Gnestaleden is a 10 km walking and cycling route between Gnesta and Karlslund. Near Hållsta, it passes two burial grounds dating from the Late Iron Age. At Jakobsberg in Björnlunda, Gnestaleden also includes a nature loop with a birdwatching tower. Näckrosleden is a longer circular route that passes several natural and cultural attractions in the Gnesta area.
Stefanie Schlosser offers hiking experiences in the Sörmland countryside, including hikes and day trips. The municipality of Gnesta has 21 nature reserves that can be explored year-round. Högtorn lookout tower stands on Fräkensjöberget, east of Lake Klämmingen. The route there is 2.6 km each way, and Stage 13 of the Sörmlandsleden passes the viewpoint.
Kammarstenen is a glacial erratic transported by the inland ice. Its cracks and passages are large enough to crawl into and explore. The stone lies directly beside the road near Stage 19 of the Sörmlandsleden; parking is available at the Sörmlandsleden information-board car park.
Nature by the water
The Marvikarna and Krampan area offers hiking trails, barbecue facilities, bathing spots and opportunities for ice skating in winter. It also has a rich variety of birdlife, interesting geology, toilets, barbecue areas and other recreational facilities. Marvikarna is part of the canoe tour that begins in Åkers Styckebruk and ends in Trosa.
There are several popular fishing waters in the municipality of Gnesta where you can fish from a boat or from the shore. Information is also available about waters with open access and how to obtain fishing permits. In total, the municipality has six municipal bathing spots as well as additional natural swimming areas. Frösjöstrand is a peaceful bathing spot in central Gnesta, just a few steps from the railway station.
History and culture
Skottvångs gruvmuseum displays objects and photographs relating to mining and charcoal burning, as well as the everyday history of the forest regions. Former miners are represented there through images, text and sound. Skottvångs Grufva preserves a historic mining environment; a guided tour leads to 19 historic buildings and objects.
In Åkers bergslag, 48 red posts decorated with pennants tell the story of the journey of iron from ore to cannon, as well as of the people who lived and worked at the ironworks. The open-air exhibition is accessible around the clock every day of the year. The “Historien i Sörmland” exhibition in Gnesta explains the history of the railway and infrastructure town using 27 red posts decorated with pennants.
The Gnesta-Kalle Museum displays old photographs, records, posters and, above all, accordions. At the service centre in Gnesta, you can obtain personal tourist information as well as current brochures and maps.

The varied 18-hole course is laid out as a hilly woodland and parkland setting and offers views of Lakes Misteln and Kyrksjön. Lagårn i Ullsta offers exhibitions, concerts and events in a natural setting. A cooking class led by experienced chefs ends with a shared meal.
