Yläne can be explored through three distinct themes: nature and environmental education, the history of the parish, and leisure activities by Lake Pyhäjärvi. This mix can help you choose a destination if you are weighing up nature-related attractions, historic sites, and a beach or event connection. Each place has its own focus.

Nature and Environmental Education

Luontokapinetti in Yläne is a nature information center focusing on nature and environmental education. Its extensive, varied exhibition covers topics ranging from the Earth to the forests and mires that cover it, and the animals and plants found there. The surrounding atmosphere and outer space are also included. This breadth brings together different nature-related themes rather than focusing on a single type of landscape. The center also has well-equipped meeting rooms and a nature school offering experiential activities for learners of all ages.

The Aikapolku, a geological nature trail with an observation tower, runs next to Luontokapinetti. This places a wide-ranging nature exhibition alongside a trail with a geological focus. Those who want to explore nature in different ways will find two distinct points of interest here: the exhibition’s many themes and the geological focus of the Aikapolku.

Church History in Yläne

Two places and periods should be distinguished when considering the parish’s history. Kappelniittu in the village of Yläne was identified in 2000 as the site of the parish’s first church. Until 1663, it was home to a medieval square churchyard, a small wooden chapel, and a cemetery. Yläneen kirkko is a different historic landmark: it was completed in 1782 and built by Mikael Piimänen. The dates therefore do not refer to the same building, but to the earlier church site at Kappelniittu and the completion of Yläneen kirkko.

Visitor information for Yläneen kirkko states that access is available during events and by appointment. Arrange your visit in advance. This helps you plan a visit without assuming that access is available without prior notice.

Leisure by Lake Pyhäjärvi and Summer Events

Yläneen Valasranta is a recreational area on the southern shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi. Its amenities include a popular dance hall, a swimming beach, a kiosk, and a caravan and camping area. The site thus combines a beach with other leisure activities in one named location. Compared with Luontokapinetti’s nature-focused offerings, Valasranta centers on lakeside recreation.

Yläne’s museum hill also offers a summer connection. The museum guide, valid from May 2025 to April 2027, lists music and poetry events, art exhibitions, demonstrations of traditional crafts, afternoon coffee, expert talks on gardening, community work parties, and church services, as well as other events for the whole family. The program brings together a range of cultural and community occasions; if you are traveling for a specific date, check the event dates in advance.
