Beach, trails and traces of history

Diernæs shows its coastal character particularly clearly along Diernæs Bay. Diernæs Beach lies east of the Diernæs Strand holiday home area and has Blue Flag status. If you would like to combine the beach and outdoor activities when planning your trip, this gives you two clearly defined focal points side by side. The waterfront location provides the maritime setting for trails, nature experiences and historical themes.

Hiking on the Camino Haderslev Næs

The Camino Haderslev Næs is a 106 km hiking trail. Wooden posts bearing the route logo, together with small signs displaying the logo and arrows, mark its course. Along the long route, the markings provide guidance when the hike is divided into individual daily stages. On the route, Diernæs Beach offers an opportunity to swim before continuing on to Hoptrup Church. In this way, the trail combines a longer hiking route with a specific stay at the beach, without requiring both experiences to be considered part of the same section.

Slivsø, wildlife and shelter

In the vicinity of Diernæs, a trail approximately 3.5 km long runs along the northern shore of Slivsø. It takes hikers close to the lake and its wildlife. The Shelter i Diernæs is located between Slivsøen and Diernæs Beach. For planning your day, the different trail lengths provide useful guidance: the approximately 3.5 km trail and the 106 km Camino represent distinctly different forms of hiking.

Water activities on Slivsø and Diernæs Bay

In the vicinity of Diernæs, SUP is possible on Slivsø, starting from the platform by the pump house. Another route is called “Slivsø – ad Hoptrup Å til Diernæs Bugt” and leads downstream via the Hoptrup Å to Diernæs Bay.

Sikringsstilling Nord

Sikringsstilling Nord extends from the east of Diernæs near Hoptrup to Rømø in the west and is approximately 50 km long. The position was built by the Imperial German Army in 1916–1917. Its extent and clearly dated construction period make it an independent historical point of reference for anyone who wants to understand their stay not only through the beach and nature, but also through military history.

The original scale of the position

Sikringsstilling Nord originally comprised approximately 900 bunkers and 40 batteries. It also included flooding installations, trenches and military railways for transporting supplies to the position. These components describe the original scale and technical organisation of the structure. Together with its route from Hoptrup to Rømø, this creates a historical area of interest that is clearly distinct from today’s beach, hiking and water-based experiences in Diernæs.
