Halk at the Little Belt: Beach, Cliff and Coastal Paths

Halk Beach is located on the Little Belt and is a sandy beach with areas of small and medium-sized stones. Halk Hoved is an active coastal cliff 20–28 m high on the Little Belt. Many stones on the beach near Halk Hoved contain fossils of animals that lived in the distant prehistoric past. When viewing the shore, sandy areas, small and medium-sized stones, and the high form of the active cliff emerge as distinct coastal features. The fossils in the stones near Halk Hoved add a geological-historical aspect to the beach.

Natural area on the Little Belt

Halk Nor is a coastal lagoon habitat of type 1150 within the Natura 2000 site Lillebælt. In addition to its sandy beach, Halk therefore also offers a coastal lagoon as a distinct natural area. Church and historical traces

Halk Church consists of a Romanesque chancel and a Romanesque nave. Halk Church also contains a Gothic iron baptismal font, made in 1491 by the Flensburg master founder Peter Hansen. The Beieholm–Halk Church area includes a medieval manor house and a church. In terms of chronology, the year 1491 belongs to the baptismal font, not to the Romanesque architectural form of the chancel and nave. The Romanesque architectural form and the Gothic baptismal font are different features of Halk Church.

Halk as a stage on the Camino Haderslev Næs

The Camino Haderslev Næs is a hiking route just under 95 km long and passes via Halk Church. Stage 6 runs for 15 km from Øsby Church to Halk Church. The Camino Haderslev Næs is marked with wooden posts bearing the route logo, as well as small signs with the logo and arrows. The two distances represent different planning frameworks: the 15 km refers to the stage, while just under 95 km refers to the entire Camino. For a day of hiking, the section from Øsby Church to Halk Church is therefore the relevant distance, while the full route takes a longer period of time. The markings appear in two forms: wooden posts bear the route logo, while small signs display the logo and arrows.

Halk Strand Camping is located in a green natural area with views across the Little Belt towards Funen and Als. The beach near Halk Strand Camping has Blue Flag status. The view across the Little Belt towards Funen and Als extends from the campsite across the body of water. The Blue Flag remains specifically associated with the beach near Halk Strand Camping.
