Råde on the Little Belt: Beach, Dunes and Nature

Råde Strand is located on the Little Belt south of Årø Sund. Råde Hoved lies at the transition between the Little Belt and Årøsund. The coastal setting takes different forms here: dunes on the beach, a municipal reef project at Råde Hoved and a sea trout fishing spot.

Small dune landscape at Råde Strand

The area at Råde Strand, managed by the Danish Nature Agency, is small, semi-arid and gently hilly. It consists of a mosaic of dry grassland areas and grey and green dunes that are becoming overgrown with vegetation. This creates a close succession of open areas and vegetated dune formations.

The holiday-home landscape is also divided: The nearly contiguous holiday-home areas of Råde and Flovt are separated by Råde Bæk. The land on both sides slopes down towards Råde Bæk. The stream thus forms a clear spatial division between the two residential areas.

Fossils and a planned reef project

Fossil hunting is possible at Råde Strand, where fossilised sea urchins can be found. Alongside the dune landscape, the beach therefore offers a direct connection to the geology of the coast. At Råde Hoved, the municipal reef project includes an information reef close to the shore.

Further offshore, the project also includes a larger, continuous, cave-forming reef approximately 550 metres long. The two reef components are located in different areas: one part is close to the shore, while the other is planned farther offshore. The approximate length given for the larger reef remains unchanged.

Simple overnight spots by the water

There is a basic overnight site at Råde Strand. It can be used free of charge for a maximum of two nights without a permit and serves as a landing place for canoes and kayaks. There are no parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the Råde Strand overnight site. For this site, the duration of the stay, the free use and its function as a landing place are essential details.

Another small overnight option is the Råde Strand Mini-Shelter “Havterne”. It accommodates a maximum of three people for a maximum of two nights. Booking can be made three months in advance. Both overnight sites are therefore limited to a maximum of two nights; the Mini-Shelter additionally has a three-person limit, while the basic site can be used free of charge without a permit.

Camino stage and marked trails

The shelter in Råde By is located on the fifth stage of the Camino Haderslev Næs. The Camino Haderslev Næs is marked with wooden posts bearing the route logo, as well as small signs with the logo and arrows. This provides two specific forms of waymarking: posts and signs guide walkers along the stage.

Fishing at Råde Hoved

Råde Hoved is a sea trout fishing spot. A valid fishing licence is required for fishing at Råde Hoved. Anyone planning a day of fishing at this coastal location must take the fishing licence into account as a practical requirement.
