Sorunda: Church art and older traces

The Church of Sorunda is located near Hästnäs and was originally built toward the end of the 12th century. It has wall paintings from 1549 signed by the master Urian Olofson. The furnishings also include two North German wooden altarpieces from the 15th century: one dates from the third quarter and the other from the final quarter of that century. The wider Sorunda region also preserves around one hundred burial grounds and sixteen hillforts from the Iron Age. In addition, there are Bronze Age burial mounds and stone settings. These finds broaden the perspective beyond the individual location and place Hästnäs in a region whose history can be traced across several periods.
