Möja – Nature Trail, Village Harbors and Archipelago Culture

Möja is a traditional archipelago island with small villages and well-preserved harbors. Fishing is still practiced on Möja.

Nature

A section of the Stockholm Archipelago Trail runs on Möja from Långvik to Hamn, following a gravel road. Connections with the Waxholmsbåten make it possible to hike this section of Möja as a linear walk rather than a loop.

A nature trail leads between the villages of Hamn in the west and Ramsmora in the east through the Björndalen Nature Reserve. The Möja-Björndalen Nature Reserve offers mushroom excursions and long shoreline walks, and includes old unused forest, marshland and rocky areas.

The Möja-Björndalen Nature Reserve can be reached by archipelago boat to the Dragedet landing stage. Möja is recommended for hiking and cycling; there are bicycle rental services in the north and south of the island.

Möja has several natural bathing spots on rocks and beaches. There is no official bathing site on the island.

Orientation

The main village of Berg has a grocery store, a summer bakery, summer restaurants, a tourist office and a steamboat landing stage. The store and the inn in the main village of Berg are open year-round.

The guest harbor in Berg has a toilet and water. Värmdö Municipality provides leaflets about Möja in English and Swedish; they contain information about accommodation, food, attractions and how to get there.

Culture

Möja Church was built in 1768 by master builder Carl Örn. A votive ship hangs in its choir. Möja Church can be reached by boat from Sollenkroka, Boda or Strömkajen.

Möja’s local history museum in Berg displays older objects from the archipelago. The Roland Svensson Museum is located at the landing stage in Ramsmora and displays the artist’s former studio as well as several of his works.

Möja’s dance floor is the oldest still-operating dance floor in the Stockholm archipelago. Music events, dancing, cinema and markets are held there every year.

Visitors can use the three boules courts at Möja’s dance floor when they are not needed by club members.

Midsummer celebrations are held in the meadows in the villages of Löka and Ramsmora, and everyone can take part. Sweden’s National Day is celebrated on Möja’s dance floor with a boules festival, picnic, music and other festivities.
