Sundbyberg: Art, Nature and Exercise

Sundbyberg combines museums, literary signs, parks and nature reserves with sports, outdoor activities and events.

Culture

Landscape architect Sven Hermelin worked in Marabouparken from 1937 to 1955. The park is home to a sculpture collection featuring works by Swedish and international artists. Marabouparken konsthall is a venue for contemporary art, discussions and educational activities. Public access was a condition for Marabou’s purchase of the property on which Marabouparken was planned. In 2008, the park received the award for Sweden’s most beautiful park.

The cultural environment of Duvbo includes large gardens, the street network, parks, a church, a school, a fire station, lush vegetation and historic villas. Duvbo kyrka was inaugurated in 1904; its façades were designed in a simple, freely interpreted Gothic Revival style. Sundbyberg also has 16 literary signs, each associated with an author connected to Sundbyberg.

Nature

Igelbäckens naturreservat was established in 2004 to protect Igelbäcken and preserve the surrounding landscape for outdoor recreation and nature experiences. The reserve has many paths, exercise trails and varied natural surroundings. Rissne ängars naturreservat combines open meadows with wooded hills where the pine trees are more than 300 years old. It has playgrounds, a children’s pool, barbecue areas, a sledding hill and large open spaces. The reserve is part of a larger green area stretching from Rissne to Lake Råstasjön in Solna, allowing walks through green spaces across Sundbyberg.

Lötsjön-Golfängarnas naturreservat includes wooded areas, open lawns, a bird lake, a playground, a paddling pool and a ball court. Several walking and cycling paths cross the area. All year round, it offers opportunities for play, exercise, recreation and nature experiences. Alongside Lötsjön, Bällstaviken with Ulvsundasjön is the only other large open body of water in Sundbyberg. Bällstaån flows through Sundbyberg and, after passing through Bällstaviken and Ulvsundasjön, empties into Lake Mälaren.

Exercise

Ursviks motionsområde offers five different route lengths as well as an activity trail for children. Nickspåret is an approximately 12.5-kilometre mountain biking trail that can be divided into shorter sections. For winter sports, Ursvik has a two-kilometre artificial-snow cross-country ski track.

Sundbybergs simhall och gym has five swimming pools. Facilities also include a gym, group exercise classes, and a dry sauna and a steam sauna. Since 2005, the National Day has been celebrated at Golfängarna as a large public festival for all residents of Sundbyberg.

Getting There

Sundbyberg can be reached by metro, bus, tram, commuter train, car, bicycle and airport buses. The metro journey from T-Centralen to Sundbybergs centrum takes approximately 12 minutes. At Sundbybergs centrum, the commuter train connects with the blue metro line.
