Those wishing to combine walks through open landscapes, historic traces and distinctive cultural attractions on their trip will find a variety of options in Lillkyrka. Lillkyrka is characterised by nature and open landscapes, while historic sites add to its appeal as a destination. For planning your day, there are both short walking routes and longer hiking sections, as well as clearly specified visiting times.

Walking Trails and Hikes Around Lillkyrka

The Lillkyrka motionsspår offers a manageable opportunity for exercise. The trail is 2.5 kilometres long and includes a short 600-metre loop, also known as Mullespåret. Those who prefer a shorter route can follow this distance; for a longer exercise session, the full trail is a suitable option.

The Lillkyrka fornstig is a three-kilometre circular trail through woodland and meadow areas and is easy to walk. Along the route lies Finnhögen, the largest burial mound on Lillkyrka's fornstig. It dates from the Viking Age and gives the trail a historical dimension in addition to its natural appeal. The fornstig begins at Lillkyrka School, where there are plenty of parking spaces.

Stage 27 of the Upplandsleden also begins in Lillkyrka, at the sports ground. Parking spaces are available there. From the stop in Lillkyrka, you can hike half the stage to Kungs-Husby kyrka; this section is approximately 5 kilometres long. Water is available at Lillkyrka församlingsgård at any time for stage 27. This makes it possible to distinguish between various hiking plans: a short loop, a circular route through woodland and meadows, or a section of the longer long-distance trail.

Medieval Church and Historic Details

Lillkyrka Church is a small medieval Romanesque church made of grey stone, with a tarred shingle roof. It originally dates from the late 13th century and was first mentioned in 1303 during an archiepiscopal visitation. Its interior contains preserved medieval images of the Virgin Mary and Christ.

The furnishings also include a funerary chapel built in the 16th century, known as the Oxenstiernska or Eka-Gravkoret. Two 16th-century tomb slabs add to this historic impression. The organ was built in 1840 by P. O. Gullbergsson, a local organ builder and resident of Lillkyrka. Those interested in ecclesiastical architecture, historic interiors and preserved individual artefacts can therefore combine a visit to the church with the fornstig or a walk.

Lillkyrka kyrka is open in connection with services. Visits at other times can be arranged by contacting the parish office on 0171-257 00. The request must be made at least 10 days in advance. This arrangement should be taken into account when planning a specific visit to the church.

Park, Garden and Local Excursion Destinations

Trögdsparken combines landscaped park areas with play areas and open lawns with low shrubbery. There is also an outdoor children's playground at Jowilins lada. The café and excursion destination there offers homemade pastries and open sandwiches. Jowilins lada also houses a gallery displaying paintings and handicrafts.

Another cultural and garden attraction is Sense living. It features a 4,000-square-metre garden in an 18th-century farm complex. Guided tours at Sense living are offered at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00. Depending on your personal interests, you can therefore include walking trails, historic buildings, garden spaces, art and a café break in your travel plans in Lillkyrka.

Lillkyrka as a Starting Point for Planning Your Trip

Lillkyrka is well suited to travel plans that focus not just on a single destination but on a variety of activities for the day. The open landscapes and nature shape the experience, while the fornstig, Finnhögen and the church provide historical points of reference. The designated parking facilities at the school and sports ground make planning the routes mentioned above easier; for stage 27, the water supply at the församlingsgård is also a practical point of reference.
